Obituary of Robert LeRoy Soderling

Robert LeRoy Soderling, 93, of Duluth, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2019 at his home.

Bob was born in Duluth on September 7, 1925 to Oscar and Ebba Soderling.

He married Mary Lou Klein in 1948. That same year he enlisted in the US Navy where he volunteered for PT boat duty, serving in the Atlantic during WWII.

Bob was a member of the 148th Air National Guard. He worked as a Switchman for the Burlington Northern Railroad, until his retirement.

Bob was an avid golfer and also enjoyed fishing and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, May Lou; and daughter, Cindy Backstrom.

Bob is survived by his children: David (Barb) Soderling, Chuck (Pam) Soderling and Marsha (Dave) Dahl; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Lakeside Presbyterian Church, 4430 McCulloch St, in Duluth.

A Committal Service with Military Honors will be held at 3 p.m. at the Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery-Duluth, 4777 Hwy 53, in Saginaw.
