Obituary of Tom Checco

Checco, Tom Beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend Tom Checco, age 77, passed how he lived, peacefully and full of grace, on May 1, 2019 at home surrounded by his loved ones. Tom was born on August 7, 1941 in Hibbing, MN to Mary (Altobelli) and Louis Checco. He graduated from Hibbing High School and attended St. Cloud State University before he met the love of his life, Marcy (Murphy). Together, they made their home in Bloomington with their two children, Kristin and Nick. An Iron Ranger to his core, Tom loved sports and his Italian upbringing. Growing up, he was a multi-sport athlete, playing hockey, football, track, baseball and was a Golden Glove boxer. He played a mean game of cribbage and loved a good hand of poker. But his real passion was his family. Whether it was cheering his kids from the sidelines, embarking on cross-country road trips or delighting in a full plate of ravioli, Tom enjoyed every minute. Later in life, his love would only grow when he got to see both his daughter and son become parents to his four precious grandchildren, Ben (19), Matt (15), Saunie (10) and Celia (8). Being a grandpa became his favorite pastime. The old saying, "he never met a stranger," was never more true than when describing Tom. His gentle smile and easy-going charm made him a cherished friend to all. Tom is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marcy; two children, Kristin Checco, Nick (Allison) Checco; brother Albert (Carole Ann) Checco, four grandchildren Ben TenBroek, Matt Tenbroek, Saunie Checco and Celia Checco, and countless family members and close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Mary Checco. A memorial service will be held on May 8, at the Cremation Society of MN, Edina Chapel, 7110 France Ave. S. in Edina. Visitation is at 5 pm with a Memorial Service at 6 pm. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Heartland Hospice, 2685 Long Lake Road, Suite 105 in Roseville, MN 55113 or your favorite charity.
