Obituary of Timothy Ray Fisher

Timothy R. Fisher, age 54, died at home on April 23, 2019, in Minneapolis, MN from sarcoma.

Preceded in death by infant sister, Susan Fisher and father-in-law, George Hurney. Survived by wife, Christine Hurney; parents, Peter and Ann (Heinzen) Fisher; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Gina Fisher; mother-in-law, Mary Hurney; brother-sister-in-law, Brian Hurney and Denise Thé; and nephews, Rogan and Thatcher Hurney.

Born October 8, 1964, in Milwaukee, WI, and lived in Moses Lake, WA; Perris, CA; Colton, CA; Guam; Papillion, NE; Long Island, NY; Waukesha, WI; and Washington, DC, before moving to Minneapolis permanently in 1994.

Graduated from St. Olaf College (Northfield, MN) with a BA in English and from The American University (Washington, DC) with an MFA in Creative Writing.

Tim and Christine married in 1998. Together they scoured antique stores, canoed on Lake Itasca, hunted for edible mushrooms, completed innumerable home-improvement projects, drank wine with family and friends, praised Tim’s homemade pizza, and volunteered at church.

Tim was a devoted advocate for the full welcome and celebration of people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions in the Lutheran Church (ELCA) and in our shared public life. A man of deep conviction and principles, he mixed hard work with grace, fun, and a gentle spirit.

Visitation on Friday, May 10, 2019, at 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral service on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at 1:00 pm. Reception to follow. Both events at Nokomis Heights Lutheran Church, 5300 10th Ave S, Minneapolis. Memorials donated to Nokomis Heights Lutheran Church and Community Emergency Service (CES) Food Shelf.
