Obituary of Matthew Duncan Moore

Matthew Duncan Moore

October 6,1968 to April 15, 2019

“Where there is love there is life.” Mahatma Ghandi

Matt is survived by his loving wife Carrie, sons Tom and Max, parents Tom and Pat Moore, sister Sarah, nephews Carlo, Nick, and Ollie, niece Gabriella, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Matt was not a formal guy and would want us to remember him as being very purposeful about his interests while irreverent in his approach. He was known and loved for his humor and whimsical wit. He was a fan of cartoons, comics, cinema and kitchy television. Particular favorites were Dead Pool, Studio Ghibli/Hayao Miyazaki, Dr. Who and many more. He was an early devotee of the Doctor, watching it with his mom and discussing the different seasons and doctors starting in the mid-80's before it went off air. When it returned to television in 2005 he and his wife became avid fans and have shared this love with Tom and Max. Their other ride is a Tardis.

When he was little he loved music and jingles! He could hum a commercial jingle or the refrain from a song and did it all the time, particularly on long trips in the family station wagon.

Matt earned a degree in graphic design from Brown College and was a talented artist. He worked independently for years before joining the world of business where he was a successful CAD designer and Graphic Artist. His recent employer, Eide Machinery, was incredibly supportive through his illness.

His love of design stemmed from his love of all forms of graphic arts. Please visit OneMooreDesign.com, his retired site, to see an example of both his humor and his design esthetic. He was a self-professed "doodler" and regularly put doodles in his children's lunch as surprises. He combined two of his loves by creating logos and designs for Disc Golf tournaments. He collected hundreds of discs to find just the right drivers and putters for every weather condition and potential shot!

Matt lived in Minnesota since the age of three. He grew up camping with his parents and sister while driving annually to visit relatives in upstate New York. Northern Minnesota and Gooseberry Falls were favorite escapes with his wife and sons. He was a fan of the KILT in recognition of his Scottish/Irish heritage. He regularly sported the Moore (Muir) or Cameron plaids to special occasions along with his sons. If you visit his blog at ALittleMoore.blogspot.com you will learn how much he loved spending time with his family and how he valued even the smallest moments.

Matt was a recovered addict, although he might use the word "recovering". He had not used any substances for more than 31 years. Alcoholics Anonymous was a huge support during his recovery. People he met through that process remained some of his dearest and truest friends.

Matthew was taken from us too soon as a result of his fight with cancer. Matt battled Lymphoma from pre-school through early adulthood and Melanoma in the past few years. He was given the diagnosis of "terminal" in January. It was his wish to spend as much time with family and friends as possible in the past few months. He was and we are so grateful to everyone who was able to pay him a visit and share some time with him. He valued his time with all of you deeply and we will all miss him sorely.
