Obituary of James Marvin Peterson
Peterson, James Marvin Born March 31, 1929 in Cincinnati, Ohio, died peacefully on March 28th, 2019, just short of his 90th birthday. He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Marvin and Eunice Peterson, and by his wife of 61 years, Joan. He is survived by his sister Borgny Johnson (Alan); his sister-in-law Sonja Almgren (Jim); his daughters Lisa Rovick (Bruce Simpson) and Solveg Peterson (Scott Adamson); his granddaughters Keisha Ashley (Joey) and Birgitte Catlin (Jared); and nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was a Renaissance man: educator, violinist, orchestra conductor, choral conductor, Holstein breeder, financial planner, thinker, economist, scientist, photographer, architect, carpenter, woodworker, gardener, writer, good neighbor, happy Dane, champion of the underdog. He loved pie, baseball, cats, art, and Shakespeare. Above all, he was the loving guardian and advocate of his family, always looking out for and uniquely taking care of each of us. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am, with visitation at 10:00am, on Saturday, April 6th, at St. Peder's Lutheran Church, 4600 E. 42nd St., Minneapolis. Luncheon will follow. Memorials preferred to St. Peder's Lutheran Church, the Danish American Center, or the Museum of Danish America.
