Marjean Postlethwaite

Obituary of Marjean Carr Postlethwaite

Age 93, was born in Rose Hill, Kansas on December 26, 1925 and died March 13 at the Jones Harrison Residence in Minneapolis. For over six decades, she lived in and loved the Twin Cities, from Prospect Park to Linden Hills. Marjean was preceded in death by her husbands, United Methodist minister R. Deane Postlethwaite (died 1980) and U.C.C. minister Trevor Hausske (died 2014). She is survived by her sister, Madelyn Calderwood, of Kansas, and by her loving children, Diana Postlethwaite (Paul Thiboutot), David Postlethwaite (Angela Fiero), and Martha Postlethwaite (Bruce Almquist), her grandchildren Lucy, Lily, Jessica and Luke, and five great-grandsons, Sawyer, Graham, Owen, Cyrus and Micah; and also by Trevor's children Kristine Rose and Evie Fuson, grandchildren Leah, Chelsea, Ben, Lindsay, Scott and Kelsey, and great-grandchildren Liam and Brynn. Music performance is the theme that harmonized Marjean's life: gifted piano performance major at the University of Kansas, patient piano teacher, outstanding accompanist (she was accompanist of the newly-formed Minnesota Chorale in the 1970s), beloved choir director and organist at both Deane's and Trevor's churches, member of a chamber music ensemble well into her 80's, and decades-long subscriber to many musical and cultural organizations, including Mu Phi Epsilon, PEO, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Schubert Club, and the Guthrie Theatre. Marjean played piano daily until moving to Jones Harrison in 2016. She always began with Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring." A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, March 23 at the First Congregational Church of Minnesota, 500 8th Ave SE, Minneapolis. Memorials should be sent to the First Congregational Church or to the Minnesota Orchestra.
