Obituary of Shirley Ann Enger
Shirley Ann (McKay) Enger, age 78, of Rockford MN, passed away on March 10, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids. She was born on March 2, 1941, in Minneapolis to Clifford and Ruth McKay (Dahlstrom) and was the oldest of 5 children.
After graduating from Hopkins High School in 1959 she met the love of her life V. Curtis Enger and married February 17, 1962, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Hopkins, MN. Curt and Shirley moved to Rockford, MN to raise their three children; Paul, Melanie and Christopher.
Shirley was a humanitarian and altruistic in every aspect of her life. When help was needed, she was already behind you to share her time and talents. She worked for Super Value, Prudential Law Department and 23 years as the Secretary at Our Fathers Lutheran Church. She was a member of MN State Parks Passport Club, and a volunteer at Riverworks-Food Shelf and Meals on Wheels.
Her passions included camping, bird watching, sewing, reading, spending time with her family and a formidable sharp-eyed agate hunter.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, V. Curtis Enger; children Paul, Melanie (Greg) Elstad and Chris (Christine) Enger; siblings Janet Hamilton, Mary Larson, David McKay and Bruce McKay; grandchildren, Justin, Katelyn, Madison Elstad, and Tanner; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents Clifford and Ruth McKay; brother-in-law’s Robert Hamilton, A. Douglas Larson.
Friends and family are welcome to attend the memorial service on Saturday, March 23 at 10:00 A.M. at Our Fathers Lutheran Church, 3903 Gilbert Ave. SE, Rockford, Minnesota, 55373. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Our Father Lutheran Church Foundation.
