Ronald Matta

Obituary of Ronald Mathew Matta

Ronald Mathew Matta died peacefully this past Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital, surrounded by loving family members. He was 84.

A lifelong Duluthian, Ron graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1953. An industrious man, he served as a Private in the US Army Reseve, and held varying positions at Interlake Steamship Company, Karsbar, Fifth Avenue Hotel, Western Electric, and Crystal Fine Foods. As his family grew, he worked as a mail handler at the United States Post Office, and finally a cook and storekeeper at Chris Jensen Nursing Home. He earned an Associate Degree in Accounting at UW-Superior along the way.

Born with a gift for gab, one of his favorite activities was talking to his friends and sharing news with any of them willing to listen - he always had a news clipping in his shirt pocket! He enjoyed spending time in Bayfield, WI, especially at the popular Big Top Chataqua shows (where he was a volunteer for 20+ years). Polka and bluegrass were his favorite musics later in life.

He is survived by his wife Anna Marie Matta of Duluth, his daughter Rhonda Mae Sande (Dave) of Duluth, and his son Thomas Edward Matta (Carrie) residing in Chicago. He has extended family throughout the country. His family asks, as you are able, to consider a donation to the American Heart Association.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, March 16th from 10 am - Noon at Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave., Duluth, MN.
