Obituary of MIchael P. Ducar
Our beloved Mike passed from our loving arms into to the open arms of Jesus on March 8, 2019 at age 81. He is survived by Debbie, his loving wife of 54 years, his children, Jennifer Scott (James), Christopher, and Sandy Kerrigan (Scott), grandchildren Henry, Austin, Bailey and Sara, and several nephews and nieces. Mike was born to John and Stephanie (Hodal) Ducar in July of 1937 and had a younger brother, Robert. Growing up in Chicago, he attended St. Ignatius College Prep where he ran track and cross country, which earned him a scholarship to Georgetown University. After Georgetown, he served out his Army ROTC requirements and then attended Harvard Business School. Following graduation, he headed to New York City to pursue a career in finance. He met Debbie the day he moved to New York and they married in 1964. They moved back to Chicago for a few years, and then ultimately to Edina. Mike worked at IDS for 20 years, serving in several different research and leadership positions. In those 20 years, he planned and took his family on countless amazing vacations, many of which began in the silver Chevy van. He retired in 1996 and shifted his focus to supporting organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, St. Stephens and PPL. He loved spending time in Bonita Beach, FL, Door County, WI, visiting presidential libraries, and playing golf, tennis, and poker with his buddies. Mike was a generous, thoughtful, and loving man. He cherished his family and supported and encouraged us in every way imaginable. He was a man of faith and felt strongly that we are put on earth to help others, especially those less fortunate. We are so blessed to have had him in our lives and we miss him terribly but are comforted that his struggle with Parkinson's is over and he is with our Heavenly Father. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Struthers Parkinson's Center, Youth Frontiers, or MicroGrants. Visitation: Tuesday, March 12th from 5pm to 7pm (Westview Room) Memorial Service: Wednesday, March 13th at 1pm, reception afterwards. Both events will be held at Christ Presbyterian Church, 6901 Normandale Road, Edina.
