Obituary of John K. Raymond

John K. Raymond, 93, passed away peacefully at his Excelsior home with family at his side on March 5th. John was born in 1925 in Fernando, MN to John and Selma Kopischke. He served his country training as an Air Force pilot and continuing service in the reserves as a liaison officer for the U.S. Air Force Academy, retiring in 1979 at the rank of colonel. John worked a 30-year career as a speech /English teacher and debate coach at Minnetonka High School, retiring in 1984. He transitioned to a retirement career as an antique seller/restorer with his wife at the Carver General Store, and later antique shops in Excelsior. A fixture in his community for 64 years, John was known for his wit and humor. A local character, he was never at a loss for words and loved word-play and a good pun. He loved music (played by ear), political discussions and repairing treasures. Comfortable in any social context, he was kind, generous, giving and professed a deep faith in Christ. He was president of the charter directors of Faith Lutheran Church. He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dawn Raymond (Warnke), and sister Neva Anderson of Lamberton, MN. He is survived by two children, Michael of Grand Marais, and daughter Molly Ruzicka (James) of Prior Lake, with two grandchildren, Beck and Quinn. Visitation at Faith Lutheran Church, 7595 Minnewashta Parkway, Excelsior, on March 16th at 2:00 PM followed by service at 3:00.
