Obituary of Marjorie Ann Westerheim

Marjorie Ann Westerheim, age 89, of Delano, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 18, 2019.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place Friday, March 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Delano, with visitation one hour prior to the Mass at the church. There will be a private family burial service at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Mendota Heights.

Marjorie was born March 1, 1929, in Clarion, IA, the daughter of Ernest and Edna Martin.

She was joined in Holy Matrimony with Stanley Westerheim May 26, 1956, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion, IA. To this union, three children were born: David, Michael, and Michelle.

Stanley preceded his wife in death Aug. 18, 2013.

Marjorie was a graduate of Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, IA, with a degree in nursing. She initially worked as a registered nurse at the hospital in Mason City, IA, before moving to Minneapolis and beginning her career at the VA Medical Center, where she served until her retirement.

Marjorie was the head nurse of the transplant unit for many years, and maintained contact with many of the early kidney transplant patients.

Margie and Stanley spent many winters together with their friends in Zihuatanego, Mexico, savoring the friendships and beautiful sunsets along La Ropa beach.

A gentle spirit with tremendous patience, kindness, and a love for life, Marjorie will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her children: David (Marg Hansen) Westerheim of Savage, Michael Westerheim of Minneapolis, and Michelle (Jim) Chiapetta of Delano; four grandchildren: Sam (Jessica) Fillmore, Sophia Fillmore, Sarah Chiapetta, and Alex Chiapetta; a brother, Gary (Sue) Martin of Clarion, IA; sisters-in-law Irene Lund and Doris Wallin; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Edna Martin; granddaughters Danielle and Nicole Westerheim; and brothers-in-law Glenn, Lloyd, and Harold Westerheim.
