Obituary of Frank L. Aiken

Services and Mass of Christian burial will be held for Frank L. Aiken, Jr. on Saturday March 9th 11:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5029 Zenith Ave, Mpls, MN 55410. Family will greet friends from 10:00-11:00. Funeral mass will be immediately following. Frank passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 25th, 2019 in Edina, MN. Preceded in death by wife, Mary Jo Aiken (nee Flanary). Frank was born Aug. 4th, 1928 in Dublin, GA. He is preceded in death by parents, Frank L. Aiken, Sr. and Georgia Belle Aiken (nee Guest); sister, Ruth Dreggors; son, Frank L. Aiken III. Survived by children, Maureen E. Marlow, Daniel M. Aiken, Erin R. O'Brien (Casy) and daughter-in-law, JoAnn Aiken (Frank) and four grandchildren: Matthew Aiken (fiancée Donnea), Mary Collins (Tony), Meghan O'Brien, Connor O'Brien; great grandchildren: Peyton, Cormac, and Kennedy Anne. Frank graduated from Augsburg College/U of MN. He earned a degree in Mortuary Science and Literature. He was a funeral director at several funeral homes in Duluth, MN and in the Mpls area. Frank took pride in his job and did this with care and dignity that showed his true character. He then became a MN State Grain Inspector, where he worked until retirement. Frank had numerous hobbies and interests including hunting, fishing, camping, biking, music which he eagerly passed down to his children. He was an avid reader and musician and a model train enthusiast, which all the children loved. He played bluegrass banjo, ukulele, lap dulcimer, and guitar. He and his wife, Mary Jo, loved to travel and enjoyed theater and the arts together especially in their retirement. They were both very active in their parish Christ the King for many years and had many friends there. Frank was the perfect gentleman, he was a wonderful husband, father and friend. He always had a hot cup of coffee to offer or a libation for you. He will be missed by everyone that knew and loved him.
