Obituary of Lloyd D. Smith

Lloyd D. Smith, 87, of Duluth died peacefully, February 10, 2019, in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth.

Lloyd was born July 17, 1931 in Duluth, MN, to William and Delia Smith, and grew up in Moose Lake, MN. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1952-1955. He married Lorraine Danielson on November 28, 1959, and they made their home in Duluth.

Lloyd was a flooring installer for Johnson Carpet and later retired from Superior Flooring Specialists in 1994; he was a lifetime member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America #361.

Lloyd is predeceased by his parents; an infant daughter, Lana Jean; and ten siblings.

Lloyd is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lorraine; their children, Linda Grau, and Bart (Lisa) Smith; five grandchildren, Danielle Grau, Mathew Grau, Kevin Polson, Kathryn (Justin) Markon and Rebecca Smith; one great-grandchild, Charlie Sarvela, and another expected any day. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family and the members of the Thursday Night Safety Meeting.

Lloyd will best be remembered for his love of fishing, hunting and camping, which also included foraging for wild leeks, mushrooms, berries, etc. His ability to carry off practical jokes began early and lasted his lifetime.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave., with visitation at 2:00 pm prior to the 3:00 pm service. In lieu of flowers, all monetary gifts will be donated, in Lloyd's honor, to the St. Louis County Rescue Squad.
