Obituary of Kenneth Peter Hegle

Kenneth Peter Hegle, 84, Duluth, passed away at home Sunday, January 13 after a brave, extended battle with dementia. Ken was born in Duluth March 20, 1934 to Peter and Karen Hegle. He was a graduate of Dul Central and UMD. He worked at Hermantown Schools from 1959 to 1993 in various teaching and coaching positions, administrative assistant and ultimately, high school principal. Ken returned to the high school principal position for the 2006/7 school year at which time he was given the honor of having part of the school named for him. He also served as principal at Denfeld for one-half year. Ken was employed by Voyageur Bus Co. as a bus aide for persons with special needs for 10 years. He was an avid bowler, was proud of his "300" game. Ken and son Kurt enjoyed boating and fishing and took many walks together. The family enjoyed traveling. Ken was a member of the local service group Lake Ave. Loafers. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Roy (CA) and sister Marie Olson (Duluth). Ken is survived by wife of 62 years, June, son Kurt, brother-in-law Ronald Olson, sister-in-law Carol Pickardt (Bob), many loved nieces and nephews and their families and special friends Mary and Jim Larson and Bob Swanstrom. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hermantown Schools. Greeting of friends at 9am with service at 10am at Cremation Soc. of MN 4190 Grand Ave, Duluth on Mon. Jan 21.
