Linwood Skafte

Obituary of Linwood Skafte

Linwood "Woody" Skafte passed away surrounded by family on January 12, 2019, at the age of 69 after a hard fought three-year battle against cancer.

Woody was born on January 15, 1949, in Duluth, MN, to Lloyd and Marjorie Skafte. He graduated from Duluth East High School in 1967 - and fondly recalled these years - especially his memories of singing and playing guitar in his band. On November 6, 1971, he married Mary Patricia Hon. Together, they raised three daughters Krista, Cheryl, and Lynn. He served four years in the Air Force. A well-known and trusted businessman, Woody owned and operated Downtown Standard for nearly 30 years.

A man with a hobby for every season, Woody kept busy. An avid outdoorsman, he was most happy in the mountains of Montana and Wyoming. He also loved snowmobiling, hunting, and fishing. He always had a project he was working on, spending much of his free time fixing up one of his collector cars - as long as it was a Chevy. He greatly enjoyed his time at the cabin on Hunter Lake, watching the sun rise and the visiting deer. Woody will be remembered for his respect for nature, sharp wit, expansive knowledge, love of ginger cookies and sweets, as well as his appreciation of classic rock.

Woody was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Pearman. He will be greatly missed by his wife Mary, children Krista (Ryan) Ringsred, Cheryl (Luke Moravec) Skafte, and Lynn (Dave) Whalen, mother Marjorie, sister Merilee (Jim) Main, brother Robert (Suzanne) Skafte and three grandchildren Jack, Alexis, and Shawn Ringsred, as well as a collection of great friends, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and extended family. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Luke's Hospice for the wonderful care and support provided. A funeral service will be held on Monday January 21st at the Cremation Society of Minnesota at 4100 Grand Avenue at 3:00 pm, with a visitation beginning one hour prior.
