Obituary of Raymond Edgar Carson, Jr.

Raymond (Ray) Edgar Carson Jr. passed away January 6, 2019 at Chris Jensen Health and Rehabilitation Center. Ray was born June 24, 1930 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Raymond and Doris Carson. He earned his BS in Forestry and his MS in Entomology from the University of Minnesota, where he met his future bride of 57 years, Alice Becker. They were married in 1954. Ray served as Duluth City Forester and Director of Parks and Recreation; he was named Forester of the Year in 1979. He smoke jumped for the National Forest Service and was an adjunct Associate Professor in the College of Forestry at the University of Minnesota. He was a Mason and a member of Tusler-Summit Lodge #263, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in St Paul. He was also a member of the Duluth Valley of the Scottish Rite in Duluth, MN, Rotary International, and United Church of Two Harbors. He loved spending time outdoors and watching Duluth shipping traffic. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Alice and his sister Dorothy Mussett and brother-in-law Arthur Mussett. He will be lovingly missed by his three daughters: Mary Robison of Jacksonville, Cathy McCarty Wallerstein (Dan) of Duluth, and Patty Scalzo (Rob) of Pittsburgh, and his grandchildren Rachel Robison, Clara Robison, Sean McCarty, and Sam Scalzo, and his nephew Steve Mussett of Evansville, IN. He is further survived by family friend Eddie Ruisi of Duluth. At Ray's request, no funeral will be held; a private scattering of ashes will be held at a later date.
