Obituary of Roland "Red" Nordin

Roland "Red" Nordin, 88 of Silver Bay, Minn., died on December 24, 2018 at his home. He was born February 12, 1930 in Mahtowa, attended school in Barnum, and was married to the love of his life, Pat, in Mahtowa on August 1, 1952. He retired after 30 years as a general foreman at Reserve Mining Company. Red was a man of many talents and joys, including hunting, fishing, golfing, camping, singing and playing music, gardening, and fixing just about anything. Red loved a good game of cards and a close sports game (especially if the home team won), and will be fondly remembered for his giant hugs, hearty handshakes, whistle, and wink. Red was known for his kindness, compassion, wisdom, and gentle strength. Most of all, Red loved his wife, Pat, who was never more beautiful than through his eyes and who was forever by his side. He was preceded in death by daughter Cheryl, parents John and Signe, siblings Rangvold, Esther, Margret, Robert and Astrid. He was survived by his loving wife, Pat, daughters Kathy (Paul) Lysne and Diane Erdahl, son Dan Nordin (Myrna Olson), grandchildren Aaron Bradley (Janell Verke), Stephanie (Matt) Bangston, Kristin (Kevin) Silverman, Ali Weber (Joey Perry), great-grandchildren Avery and Henry Silverman, and many nieces, nephews and loving friends. A celebration of Red's life will be held at Sychar Lutheran Church, 14 Edison Boulevard in Silver Bay on January 5 at 11 a.m. The service will be preceded by a visitation at 10 a.m. and followed by a luncheon at the church. The family deeply appreciates the Essentia Hospice staff for its loving care.
