Obituary of Wayne G. Marsh
I, Wayne G. Marsh, was born in Evergreen Park, IL, on June 30, 1942. I died on December 7, 2018. I was raised in Chicago, IL, by mother Madaline E. Marsh, father Milton M. Marsh, and grandmother Mary Marsh, all now deceased.
I am survived by treasured wife, Kathy Patten-Marsh; brother, Bob Marsh (Dee); nephew, Ken Marsh (Kathy); and niece, Valerie Miller (Kurt). Also survived by “nieces”, Audri O’Rourke-Patten and Parker O’Rourke-Hasse, who have much brightened the last years of my life; “niece”, Kaitlyn Packard; and “nephew”, Chris Carpenter. I’m honored to have been their “uncle”.
I earned a BS degree in electrical engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology, in 1964. I did well at ITT, earning membership in honor societies Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu, but I realized that technical writing would be better suited to my talents…and my deficiencies.
In 1964 I came to Minneapolis with first wife Jackie to work at Control Data Corporation, a young Minnesota computer start-up, as a technical writer. I worked there and at their successor companies until I retired in 2000. I value my friendship with Dennis Fernkes and other colleagues there over those 36 years.
I bought a townhouse in the then-new Town Oaks development in 1972. I’m grateful for the good neighbors and friends I found there, including old friend Kathy Forde.
Memorial service will be held at First Universalist Church on Saturday, December 29, at 2:00pm followed by a fellowship gathering; 3400 DuPont Ave S, Minneapolis, MN.
The doctors and staff at Park-Nicollet Clinic and Methodist Hospital expertly carried me through medical challenges, chronic and acute, over the years. If you care to leave a memorial in my name, please donate to the Park-Nicollet Foundation.
