Obituary of Rebecca Jean Snyder Marsnik

Rebecca “Becka” Jean (Snyder) Marsnik age 60 of Stillwater, MN died unexpectedly at her home in Stillwater on December 11, 2018. Rebecca was born on December 2nd, 1958 in Crookston, MN to Sidney and Irene (Rude) Snyder. She attended McKinley elementary, Highland Middle and Central High School in Crookston, graduating with the Class of 1977. She graduated from the University of Minnesota Crookston Campus in 1979 with an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood education. Rebecca continued her studies at Moorhead State University earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. During her youth, she loved to babysit all the little ones in Crookston who became so special to her. Rebecca worked various jobs in Crookston including Your Host Restaurant, The Upper Deck, The American Legion and Elks Club.

Rebecca met Michael Marsnik in the early 80’s while he was working at the Crookston Daily Times. The two were married on June 14, 1986. From their marriage came three beautiful children of whom she was most proud: Sarah Elizabeth (24), Jacob Michael (21) and Mariah Christine (19). Her loving spirit, zest for life, and love of the Lord will live on in her children.

Rebecca began her long career of giving back to her community through social work, at a nursing home in Mayville, ND. She then moved to Keokuk Iowa and eventually returned home to Minnesota, settling in the Stillwater area, which she called home for over thirty years. In Stillwater, she worked for Greeley Healthcare Center with her last position being the Director of Social Services with the Good Samaritan Society in Stillwater. In her spirit of service to others, she was also employed part time with Home Instead Senior Care of Stillwater. She had a deep passion for taking care of people of all ages, and always put others first.

Rebecca was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Stillwater where she was a Sunday School and Youth Ministries teacher, and would also volunteer wherever else she was needed. She enjoyed spending her free time with beloved family and friends. She loved to laugh, sing, dance, be silly, and see the joy in all aspects of life. She was very proud of her flower gardens and found great stress relief and joy in “retail therapy.”

Rebecca will be dearly missed. She is survived by her husband, Michael Marsnik, three children, Sarah (Andrew Sellner), Jacob, and Mariah Marsnik. Brothers, Dale (Kim) Snyder of Mondovi, WI, Stuart Snyder of Crookston, MN and sisters, Shirley Snyder of Crookston, MN, twin sister Roberta Mollet of Hugo, MN and Kristie (Tim) Ricard of Crookston, MN, brother-in-law Paul (Jamie) Marsnik, nieces (Shannon (Jerry) Janorschke, Kirsten (Ken) Standen, Jana Snyder, Whitney (Wes) Miller, Kristen (Lee Sexton) Mollet, nephews (Josh (Sarah) Snyder, Cole (Annie) Ricard, Sam (Ivy) Marsnik, Bert (Jasmine) Marsnik, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
