Obituary of Dale Richard Nephew

Dale Richard Nephew, of Duluth, was born September 22, 1949 and lost his battle with cancer on Sunday, December 9, 2018.

Dale was the oldest of seven children. He grew up in West Duluth and attended Denfeld High School. He married the love of his life, Christine (Haag), in May of 1971. Dale enlisted in the Navy, the Naval Reserve, and retired from the Army National Guard. He worked for the railroad formally known as DM&IR and retired over a decade ago. Dale was a wonderful and dedicated friend to many, always willing to lend a helping hand. In his retirement he spent some time as camp cook at an elk camp, and a was a ranch hand in Colorado. He spent a lot of time fishing, hunting, and telling stories out at his hunting shack. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice (Kunkel) Nephew, Richard Nephew, and younger brother John Nephew. He was survived by his siblings, Mary (Jim) Boynton, Kathy (Ollie) Rahkola, Paul (Paula) Nephew, Robert (Patty) Nephew, Judy (Jeff) Dieryck, his four children; Dale Nephew Jr., Alice Nephew, Anthony (Kat Ramsland) Nephew, and Danielle (Steven) Lundeen, his 6 grandchildren; Brynn (Arrue), Natalie, Kole, Ethan, Jacob, Oliver, and many nieces and nephews. Special thank you to St. Mary's Hospice.

In lieu of flowers the family ask that you plant a tree in his memory, his favorite was apple.

There will be a celebration of life gathering at The VFW post 137 at 2023 W Michigan St. in Duluth on Monday, December 17th from 4-7 pm. He will rest at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Duluth.
