Roy Lampela

Obituary of Roy Herbert Lampela

Roy Herbert Lampela, age 89, passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018.

He was born in Two Harbors on Dec. 14, 1928.

Roy was the beloved husband of Arlene (Hill), and they were married on May 29, 1954. He was also dearly loved by his children, Alan, Fred, Dennis, Diane, and Cheryl. His family grew with the addition of 3 daughters-in-law, Machelle, Cheryl, and Ambur and 2 sons-in-law, Khris Wells and Michael McGreevy. From there, his family was enriched with 11 grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Kristiina Lampela; sister, Aileen, and brother, Alvar. He treasured raising his family on the homestead that his parents established upon arriving from Finland in the early 1900s.

Roy graduated from Clover Valley High School. He was employed at Vern's Gas Station, the DM&IR, and retired from Reserve Mining. Many in the community knew him for owning and operating his own sawmill and planer for decades.

He was a kind and gentle man, silent but strong in nature. Roy taught his children to be hard workers, and he passed on his love of nature, the woods, and outdoor activities.

One important aspect of his life was his love for his Creator and the truths contained in the Bible. He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on July 8, 1989 and devoted many hours to sharing his hope of a future paradise earth with others. This solid hope sustains his family during this time.

Roy's family would like to thank the staff of Diamond Willow Cloquet and St. Croix Hospice for their care and kindness shown.

Visitation to be held starting at 1 PM on Saturday, December 15 with a memorial service to follow 2 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1235 Shoreview Road, Two Harbors.
