She lived her entire life in "good ol' Lakeside". She graduated from Central High School in 1932 and Duluth State Teachers College in 1936. She married Arthur "Bud" Petersen on Dec. 27, 1941 at Lakeside Presbyterian Church.

At Denfeld High School, "Mrs. Pete" taught Physical Education and was the cheerleading and Power Club advisor; in 2012, she became a proud member of the Denfeld Hall of Fame. Janet was an avid golfer having 2 holes-in-one and last golfed regularly in 2017 at her winter residence in Brownsville TX. She enjoyed bridge at the Duluth Woman's Club, was a proud lifelong member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church, a past Matron of the Lakeside Eastern Star, a long time member of ADK sorority, and for many years, a member of the UMD advisory board.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband Bud in 2003, her parents, Janet and James; her siblings, James, Elsie and Ian; in addition to many cousins in her parents' native Scotland. She is survived by her daughters Janet (Michael) Murry; Jean (Tim) McCall; and Kathy (Steve) Johnson. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Shelli (Mike) Strate; Joe (Theresa) Murry; Tara (Aaron) Young; Gregg (Becky) McCall; Dawn (David) Johnson; Owen Johnson; and 13 great grandchildren who brought her so much joy!

A celebration of her life will be held in May at Lakeside Presbyterian Church. The family would especially like to thank the staff at Lakeshore as well as Hospice for all the love and care they gave her. Also, a big thank you to all those former students whose visits, cards and letters brought her so much pleasure.

Memorials to Lakeside Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
