Obituary of Virginia Claire Getty Nelson

Virginia Claire Getty Nelson was born on December 7, 1915 to Robert Clarence "Carny" Getty and Theresa Krause Getty. Virginia lived her entire life in Duluth, attending Howell Grade School, Washington Junior High and Central High School, graduating in 1933. She worked for the city of Duluth before meeting the love of her lie through mutual friends. Virginia married Edward Ernest Nelson of Morgan Park on September 23, 1937 and, after living briefly in the West end, moved to Duluth Heights where they raised their six children. Duluth was their home but they traveled throughout the United States with family members. Virginia also spent a month touring England and Scotland. She was an avid reader, always sharing books with anyone she met and eagerly talked about any book she had read. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, son, Philip Edward and brother Robert Lloyd Getty. She is survived by children Judi (Norm) Volkers of Rogers, Barrett (Karon) of Fort Myers, Florida and Bayfield, Wisconsin, Holly (Ken) Beebe of Copperas Cove, Texas, Jessie Nelson, Duluth, Mn and Lisa (Warren) Sager of Duluth, and special friend Joan Hendrickson plus many grand and great grandchildren. Virginia was a member of the Heights Sewing Club for over 50 years and a long time member of Peace United Church of Christ where services will be held. The family would also like to thank the complete staff at the Franciscan Nursing Home for the excellent care she received during her stay. Visitation will be at the Peace United Church of Christ, 1111 Noth 11th Avenue East, Duluth Minnesota. Visitation is from 10:30 - 11:30, Service at 11:30 with a light lunch to follow.
