Obituary of James Greye Cherry

age 89, born on Sept. 26, 1929, passed away Oct. 29, 2018 at the Johanna Shores Nursing Home of Parkinson’s.   All who knew him are better people for having him in their lives.  There is not near enough room to praise all of his accomplishments and significance over the course of his long and active life, but some are more easily documented. He was a founding member of Theater in the Round.  When the U of M separated Applied Arts from the Fine Arts program, he moved with it to the Dakota Vocational Technical College where he reorganized and rebuilt the Interior Design program that is still one of the most notable in the country.  He was an avid traveler from a very young age and when he finally retired, set up a travel company to shepherd groups of people who wished to explore the cities, art, and culture of Europe with a master.  In life, James enjoyed taking the road less traveled, but rarely alone.  He shared his life selflessly with both his loved ones and strangers alike.  He was a great man in a world that could not afford his loss.
