Obituary of Barbara Hoye

Barbara Hoye, 91, of Crystal, formally of St. Cloud, passed away Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, at Methodist Hospital. Arrangements being made by Cremation Society of Minnesota in Edina. A private family interment will be held in St. James, in spring of 2019.

Barbara was born Sept. 1, 1927 in St. James to Austin and Emma (Morrow) Benson. She graduated from St. James High School in 1945 and married James Hoye on May 18, 1952. As the wife of a military officer, Barbara lived in several countries and multiple U.S. states before retiring in Minnesota. She was a homemaker and a voracious reader who found her professional calling as a manager of a bookstore in Petersburg Virginia. Barbara was known as a consummate hostess who loved to entertain and whose home was always open to guests for parties and gatherings and a good game of bridge! She was an exceptional housekeeper who was known for her friendliness and keen sense of humor. She loved to sing and spend time with her friends and family. She also enjoyed attending plays and musical programs and spending time with her daughter and partner at the lake in Northern Wisconsin. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her second family, Salem Lutheran Church in St. Cloud, where she spent countless hours volunteering and sharing her cheerful and contagious sense of joy and love with those around her.

She is survived by her two children: Gregory (Roxanne) of Colorado Springs, Colo, Nancy (DiAnn Tilden) of Plymouth; grandchildren: Christopher (Rebecca), Lindsey (Matt) Nelson; two great grandchildren: Austin and Brayden Hoye; twin sister, Beverly Benson Hoye of St. Cloud; several brother and sister in-laws, nieces and nephews and special niece and nephew, Barbara (Don) Poole and Brain (Sheila) Hoye. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim, in 1994 and son David, 1960.
