Obituary of Marilyn Joan Kumpf

Marilyn was born on Sept. 3, 1928 in NJ and died Oct. 29, 2018 in Edina, just past her 90th birthday. While she did work at a number of jobs outside the home her first job was wife, then mother and finally house-wife. Marilyn was married to her childhood sweet heart of 68 years, Bill Kumpf, until his death in Dec. of 2014. Over all those years they remained passionately in love. They raised 3 children, and as Bill always used to say, "one of each kind." The children are Catherine (Larry) Kohout, William George Jr. (Jan Bittman), and John Daniel (Laura Postuma). One of Marilyn's earliest memories was running home to tell her mother, "I can read, I can read." And reading remained one of her passions to the end. By reading first to her little brother and then to her own children and grandchildren she instilled a love of words in all of them. According to her elder granddaughter, "She wrote artful, elegant, funny as hell letters. I loved to sneak a peek at the letters, always written with Paper Mate Flair Pens, to aunts, cousins, friends left behind in NY and MI; wonderful narrations of family events, sunsets, or extraordinary books she read."
