Obituary of Marlene Johanna (Brandt) Carlson
Marlene Johanna (Brandt) Carlson, age 81, lifelong resident of Duluth passed away peacefully, with her loving family at her side, Sunday, November 4, 2018 while at Ecumen Scenic Shores in Two Harbors.
She was born February 7, 1937 in Duluth to Carl and Agnes Brandt. Marlene was a 1955 graduate of Denfeld High School. In 1956 she married Jerold Vogel. He passed away in 1961. On December 20, 1969 Marlene married Merlin Carlson.
Marlene worked with the Duluth Public School System for 34 years. She was a military spouse, very active and supportive of her husband. Marlene was always very active in the community especially helping the elderly with things like transportation and Meals on Wheels.
She socialized through selling Avon, loved gardening, cooking, bird watching and nature. Marlene's family camped for many years and family gatherings were a big part of her life. She always put others first. Marlene's sense of humor was dry sarcasm that caught people off guard, it was never hurtful and often made people laugh.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Marlene is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Merlin; children, David (Jerri) Vogel of Minneapolis and Kathleen Adams of Duluth; seven grandchildren, Summer, Samuel, Channah, Danita, Angela, Lindsey and Haley; her sister, Carol Ruse of Duluth and brother, John (Carolyn) Brandt of Anchorage, AK; many other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank Ecumen Scenic Shores and St. Croix Hospice for their excellent and loving care of Marlene.
There will be a celebration of Marlene's life from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 10th
at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave., Duluth, MN 218-624-5200.
