Obituary of Phyllis Elaine Birkholz

Birkholz, Phyllis Elaine (Lumsden) Our much loved "Phyl", age 90, of St. Louis Park, MN passed away peacefully on October 7, 2018. Preceded in death by husband, Kenneth L. Birkholz, parents James and Minnie (Norden) Lumsden and brother, Curtis. Survived by son, Bob (Kim); grandchildren, Sean and Kelly; great grandchild, Austin; brother, Gary; sisters-in-law, Lavonne and Muriel (Clayton); many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Phyllis was born on December 8, 1927 in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin. After graduating from St. Croix Falls High School in 1945, Phyllis attended the University of Wisconsin where she earned a BS degree. Soon after, Phyllis moved to Minneapolis to attend the University of Minnesota where she earned her BA and teaching certificate. In Minnesota, Phyllis met the love of her life, Kenneth "Kenney" Birkholz. They married on March 1, 1952. Phyllis worked as an elementary school teacher until she retired in 1986 after 33 years of dedicated service to the Robbinsdale school district #281. Phyl and her husband Kenney traveled all over the US including twice to Alaska in their motorhome. Together, they spent a lot of time volunteering for the St. Louis Park Lions Club, trout fishing and huckleberry picking in Montana in the summers and enjoying the sunshine in Arizona in the winter. A celebration of Phyllis' life will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 11am at Friendship Village, 8100 Highwood Drive, Bloomington. A light lunch will be provided after the service.
