Obituary of Anne Aileen Roberts

Anne Aileen Roberts, 73, of Stillwater, MN, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 8, 2018 surrounded by her family at her home at The Estates at Greeley.

Anne (“Anne with an E”) was born on October 1, 1945 in Duluth, MN to Carl and Marie Johnson. She was the youngest of three children.  She graduated from Duluth East High School and graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing.  Anne married Donald Roberts on December 17, 1966. She was an RN and worked at St. Luke’s Hospital, UMD Health Services, and Miller Dwan.

Anne and Don had 4 children and raised them to adulthood in Hermantown, MN. She was a Girl Scout leader, piano teacher, and seamstress. She enjoyed gardening, crafting, reading, cooking, baking and canning. Anne was a creative, caring, and faithful person. She enjoyed camping, playing cards (pinochle, nerd, and cribbage), and getting together with family and friends.

After being diagnosed with MS when she was 37 years old she helped found the organization People with Disabilities for Change which helped to make the City of Duluth and surrounding area more handicapped accessible. As advocates of the ADA (American Disabilities Act) they worked with city and state officials. They also advised businesses on how to modify their establishments in order to be more accessible for people of all disabilities.

Her faith was strong and she was always willing to share her faith story. She was very active in both of her churches, First Presbyterian Church, Duluth, MN and then First Presbyterian Church, Stillwater, MN. She was involved in many church activities; Bible study, prayer warrior, Sunday school, circle, youth and young adult leader, kitchen worker and music – especially playing the piano.

She was a loving wife, the best mom, a wonderful mother-in-law, a caring grandmother, a true friend. She will always be remembered.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Marie Johnson; and daughter, Kathryn Anne Dahlheimer. Anne is survived by her husband Donald Roberts; children, Susan (Allen) Powers, Deborah Roberts, and David (Angie) Roberts; grandchildren, Aimee (Morgan) Powers-Viebrock, Michelle Powers; Tyler Vechinski, Allie and Kyle Roberts; Jessica and Brendan Maki; siblings, Joan (David) Selvig and David (Doris) Johnson and many other family members and life-long friends.

The family would like to express their appreciation to The Estates of Greeley and to Lakeview Hospice, both of Stillwater, MN for their exceptional care of Anne.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Stillwater, MN on November 3, 2018 at 2:00 pm with a visitation one hour before.  Arrangements are with the Cremation Society of Minnesota.
