Obituary of Scott Johnson
Scott William Johnson, age 78, died peacefully September 29 in Edina, MN. The cause was complications from Parkinson's/Lewy Body disease. He was born in St. Paul to Clark W.R. and Ruth Johnson, raised in the Prospect Park neighborhood of Minneapolis and attended Marshall H.S. (1958). A talented athlete, Scott lettered in football, basketball, track and baseball. He was also an Eagle Scout. On a full scholarship from Great Northern, he attended Harvard, graduating in 1962. The next year was spent at a private school in Toledo, OH teaching history and coaching sports which he loved. Scott attended U. of M. Law School, graduating with honors in 1966. He began his law career in Denver, gravitating to corporate law and concluding his career in Minneapolis with Bemis Co. as Sr. Vice President and General Counsel. Community and educational interests were important to him. He served 2 terms on the Edina School Board, coached or managed many kid sports and completed a term on the Edina City Council. Scott served on the Board of his church and for many years sang in the choir. He was active in many sports--tennis, golf, squash, and particularly biking in his later years and was especially proud to have completed at age 70, the Colorado Ride The Rockies bike ride of 500+ miles with 5 mountain passes of 10,000+ ft in 7 days. Scott was a smart, fun loving, energetic, gregarious man who made friends easily and everywhere he went. Preceded in death by his brother, Keith, he is survived by his wife of 54 years Marjorie (Rex), his son Matthew (Kate) and daughter Brooke Slone (Jason) and 4 beloved grandsons, Andrew and Nicholas Slone and Decker and Crosby Johnson as well a niece and nephew, cousins and many special friends. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, October 19 at 11:00 AM at Chapel Hills UCC, 6512 Vernon Ave. So., Edina. Memorial gifts to donor's choice.
