Obituary of John Lundgren

John "Jack" Lundgren, age 85, died on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Viewcrest Health Center in Duluth, MN. He was born in Duluth on March 5, 1932 to John and Edith (Lax) Lundgren. Jack was married to his first wife, JoAnn (Van Dyke) for 19 years at which time they divorced. They had 3 sons: John, Allen and Gary. On May 13, 1972 he married Blanche (Haupert Bumbal) and added a stepson, Joe Bumbal and step daughter, Debra (Bumbal) Goldman to his family. Jack was a graduate of Duluth Central High School and served 4 years in the United States Navy. As a young man, he was employed at Itzy Gotkins Market, Murphy Oil Refinery, Kelly Howe Hardware and U.S Steel in Morgan Park. He was employed for 33 years at Duluth City Water and Gas where he worked as a service man until he retired in 1987. Jack was an avid fisherman and hunter. He especially loved the fall season and the smell of the north woods. He shared his love of the outdoors with his friends and family on hundreds of camping and fishing trips up the North Shore. He had a special love for his cabin in Deerwood, MN that he'd been going to since age 1. The cabin, "Lundgren's Roost", was a special place for family get togethers for hunting, fishing, swimming and special 4th of July celebrations. Jack survived colon cancer and declining health for 11 challenging years and he is now at peace. He resided at Edgewood Vista Assisted Living for the last 2 years of his life with his wife, Blanche. The family would like to thank Edgewood Vista for their friendship, care and support. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Edith, infant son Allen and son John Lundgren. He is survived by his wife of 45 years , Blanche, son Gary (Lynn) Lundgren, step-daughter Debra (Greg) Goldman and step-son Joe (Cindy) Bumbal; grandchildren Curtis (Becca) Kronlund, Jason, Jacob and Justin Lundgren, Andrea (Youssef) Sawers and Dan (Crystal) Goldman; brother Don (Jan) Lundgren and sister, Judy (Russ) Gotha , 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 9 AM until the 10 AM celebration of life on Monday, January 29, 2018 at Cremation Society of Minnesota 4100 Grand Ave. Duluth, MN.
