Obituary of Joanne Mae Carroll

Joanne Mae Carroll, 73 years old, of Duluth, MN passed away on January 20, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital. Joanne was born in Duluth, MN on July 5th, 1944 to William and Clara Godfrey. Joanne was a devoted volunteer at Memorial Rec Center for more than thirty years. Known to some as the "Memorial Lady" she had a significant impact on many children's lives whether they were skating, playing softball, or just needed someone to care about them. Her relentless volunteer work also included Scout Leader, PTA, carnival/parade organizer, and work with senior citizens. To her family, she truly was the "Real" Mayor of West Duluth. She had many hobbies which included crafting, bird watching, gardening, travelling with family, and genealogy. However, her greatest passion in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren who called her "Grams". She truly was the Rock of our family. Preceded in death by her parents, William and Clara Godfrey and siblings, Thomas, Kathryn, and Carol Ann Godfrey. Joanne will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 56 years, Tim; and her children Tim (Anita), Josie (Bob), and Mandy (Lee). She will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Brian, Phillip, Samantha, Elizabeth, Angela; her great-grandchildren, Jordan, Julian, Kortez, and Nellie; her siblings, Mary Ann Allar, Peg Overlie, Alice Thompson (Darrel), Mike Godfrey, and Julie Godfrey; her brothers-in-law, Joe and Jim Carroll; her sister-in-law; Becky Carroll; and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service in memory of Joanne will be held on Tuesday, January 30th, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. with a visitation beginning at 2pm. It will be held at the Cremation Society of MN at 4100 Grand Avenue, Duluth, MN.
