Obituary of Wilfred R. Gugat

Wilfred (Will) Gugat, age 73, of Brook Park, MN, peacefully passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the VA Hospice care in St.Cloud, after a ten month battle with Leukemia. Will was born in Sioux City, IA August 16, 1944 to Christoph Gugat and Anna Gugat (Klusman). As a child, Will enjoyed going to the drive-ins on Saturday nights and listening to music at Grandview Park on Sundays with his family. He enjoyed fixing things. That started with bicycles and turned into a long time passion of buying and fixing up cars. Will served in the USMC in Vietnam. He loved watching old Westerns. Many countless hours of playing cards with family. Will loved to travel by car all over the United States. He had been to every state and was working on visiting every state for a second time, trying to attend AA Meetings in any state he could find one. Will was a long time member of Alcoholics Anonymous of MN. He credited his sobriety to his many years of working on cars, planting trees and taking care of his property. One day at a time. Will made many great friends and left a lasting impression on so many people along his journey. Will deeply loved his four grandchildren. He always enjoyed every moment he had with them. Survivors include his children, Tina (Scott) Melichar of Hector, Chris Gugat of Apple Valley, Dee (Derek) Uutela of Carver, and step Daughter, Jamie Morton of Brook Park; grandchildren, Miranda Gugat, Nicholas and Faith Wickenhauser, and Verick Morton; siblings, Roy Gugat of Lincoln, NE, Lee (Helen) Gugat of Hinton, IA, Betty Mace of Sioux City, IA and Eva Martin of Auburn, NE; also survived by many, many, many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 3 at East Union Lutheran Church 15180 County Rd 40, Carver, 952-448-3450. Visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Parish Center.
