Obituary of Diane K. Tomczak

Diane K. Tomczak, 70, of Duluth, passed away peacefully on Jan 29, 2018 at home with family at her side. Diane was born Nov. 25, 1947, in Hibbing, Minn., to Arthur and Ann Puttonen. Diane graduated from Embarrass High School and later went to Ely Junior College for two years. She went on to graduate from UMD with a degree in elementary education. She met the love of her life Bill, and they married in 1977. They lived in Duluth, where Diane worked for ISD 709 as an Educational Asst. and clerical for 37 years. Diane loved working in the yard taking care of all her flower gardens. She enjoyed sitting in the screen house looking at the back yard with all the pretty flower and the vegetable gardens. She loved being in the screen house watching the birds come to the feeders and watching all the cooking shows on tv. She would always be looking for new recipes to try. Di was a excellent cook, but she also loved to go out to eat and try new places. She enjoyed getting together with her lady friends for lunch and social conversation. Diane enjoyed making a weekly trip to the casino with her husband. She had some fun and would usually do ok. Diane was preceded in death by her Father Arthur, Mother Ann and brother-in-law John. Diane is survived by husband, Bill; sisters, Bonnie Stepanek, Linda (Jim) Zgonc, Jean (Tim) Panchyshyn and Nancy (Mark) Johnson; brothers, Dale (Sherry) and Curt (Shelaine) Puttonen. The family would like to thank the people at Essentia Oncology and Hospice Care Team for all their wonderful care and support over the past 3 years. Visitation 2 p.m. until the 3 p.m. memorial service Saturday, Feb. 10th in the Cremation Society of Minnesota Chapel, 4100 Grand Ave., Duluth.
