Obituary of Katherine Eleanore Engel

Katherine "Kay" Eleanore Engel went to be with her beloved husband, Arne Friday, February 2, 2018, while listening to Dean Martin, with her daughter by her side. Kay was born in Duluth September 6, 1925, graduated from Denfeld High School in 1942 and only briefly lived in St. Louis, MO, where her daughter, Linda was born, then lived in Duluth the remainder of her life. She enjoyed her yard, being outside, gardening and feeding the birds. Kay liked traveling, going to Las Vegas, which her and her daughter Laurie did several times. She also traveled to Hawaii and Branson, MO with her daughter Linda, to Norway to spend time with family and to Greece with her husband Arne. Kay was a lifetime member of the Owl's Club Auxiliary and Sons of Norway. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Duluth. Kay worked as a young woman at Western Union and Marshall Wells. She retired from Northern Photo in 1988 and after her husband passed away had the need to get out and work again, worked at Fond-du-luth Casino for many years, retiring again when she was in her 80"s. Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold C. Engel; her daughter, Linda Ann Hampton and son, Michael Robert, who passed away at one week of age; grandson, Michael "Mikie" Arnold Clancey; her parents, Iver and Olga Carlson; and her brother, Harold Carlson. She is survived by her daughter, Laurie (Mark Sinclair) Clancey; grandsons, Robert (Char) Hampston and John Hampston; and her grand-doggy "Mimi" who kissed her goodbye and laid with her when she passed. Thanks to Aftenro Home for being Kay's home, the staff is so genuinely loving, caring for all the residents like family and Kay couldn't have been in a more wonderful place. She called it "home" and that was so comforting. Also St. Croix Hospice, wonderful devoted staff who truly cared for her and her comfort, so helpful in every way, the family thanks you very much. Please, in lieu of flowers a donation to Aftenro Home in Kay's name will be appreciated. Gathering of family and friends from 2 p.m. until the 3 p.m. memorial service Tuesday, Feb. 6th in the Cremation Society of Minnesota Chapel, 4100 Grand Ave., Duluth
