Obituary of Thomas Lee Johnson

It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas Lee Johnson announces his passing. Tom passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 10, 2018, with his wife, Annie, by his side. Tom was born May 26, 1956 to William and Patricia (Spilane) Johnson and was the eldest of eight children. Tom gained his strong work ethic from growing up on a small hobby farm where the family depended on the animals and the garden for their livelihood. Though popularity was not what he sought, he was always well-liked and respected by his friends, football teammates, peers and teachers at the Elk River High School where he graduated in 1974 and North Hennepin Community College. He married the love of his life, Annie Kalla, on May 7, 1977. They raised three children out in the country a short distance from where he grew up, near Rogers, MN. Tom was an excellent husband to Annie, a loving father to Jesse, Kari and Haley and their spouses, and a fun grandpa to his 10 grandchildren. His amazing family is a testament to his character of gentleness, kindness, quiet strength, wisdom and love and he will be remembered as a beautiful hero to many. Throughout the years, Tom utilized his woodworking skills and craftsmanship in cabinetry and custom countertops. Most recently he was employed at StoneSource in Plymouth, MN, as a Project Manager. His co-workers enjoyed working with him; he inspired them to improve their skills and with a smile on his face, he was always there to help solve any problem. Tom enjoyed the outdoors, and the annual deer hunting trips up north were greatly anticipated. Coming home with venison was good, however, the time spent with family was far more important to him. Tom, along with Annie, hosted a Bible study in their home for over 20 years. He was dedicated to his Lord and Savior. His study of the Holy Scriptures, and sharing that knowledge with others, was a top priority to him. He never imposed his beliefs on others, but was thrilled to share with anyone that was interested. His faith has taken root in his family, leaving a legacy of worship to the one True God, to the Glory of His precious name. Tom is preceded in death by his Father and Mother. Survived by his wife, Annie; his children, Jesse Johnson (Alison), Kari Hanson (Abe), and Haley Stampp (Alexi); his grandchildren, Jonah, Jovie, Ruby, Ella, Hazel, Amos, Kyros, Marcus, Omar and Meshak; his siblings, Sandy Grupa (Brad), Pam Johnson, Tami Sawyer, Dean Johnson, Diane Iliff (Kevin), Jill Buelow (Tim), Ron Johnson (Patty); his step-mother, Dar; his step-brothers, Dan (Vicki) Larson, Darren Larson; 23 nieces and nephews; and many other extended family members and friends. A celebration of Tom's life will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the City of Rogers Community Room, 21201 Memorial Drive, Rogers, MN. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 PM and the memorial service will begin at 4:00 PM, with a luncheon to follow.
