Obituary of Esther Alma Shega

Esther Alma (Liimatta) Shega, 87, of Duluth, formerly of Gilbert, MN, died February 11, 2018 at Keystone Bluffs in Duluth. She was born on April 29, 1930 in Palo, MN to Authur and Aune Liimatta. After graduating from high school she married Joseph Shega, and together they raised four children. Esther worked at the Peabody-Cluett shirt factory in Gilbert, and later as a school bus driver, aide, and custodian for the Gilbert school district. She was actively involved with the Range Association for Retarded Citizens and Special Olympics events and activities. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Gilbert. She was a wonderful mother and loyal friend who enjoyed fishing, golfing, listening to polka music and Twins baseball games. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe; brothers Leslie and Wilho; sister Ruth Burger; daughter, Teresa and son-in-law, William Percy. She is survived by her sister, Sandra (Dennis) Medjo; her children, Nancy, John (Kathy) Shega, Tom (Pamela) Shega; grandchildren, Steven (Kirsten) Shega, Tracy (Nick Grimme), Amy, and great-granddaughter, Logan. The family is grateful to the staff at Keystone Bluffs Assisted Living Facility, St. Luke's Hospice and friends from near and far. Esther and her daughter, Teresa, will be buried at the Gilbert Cemetery in the spring. Cremation Society of Minnesota 218-624-5200
