Obituary of Earl O. McCain

Earl O. McCain, 97, of Superior, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at his home. Earl was born on September 14, 1920 to Alex and Helga McCain, the ninth child out of 10. He served with the Superior National Guard and was inducted into the Army on October 15, 1940. Earl served 5 years in the Pacific Theater with the 128th infantry medical detachment, 32nd division. From October 1947 through October 1980, Earl worked on the Soo Line Railroad. He retired after 33 years of service. Earl married Rose Smith on June 4, 1941. They celebrated 68 years of marriage before Rose passed away in 2016. Earl was preceded in death by his wife Rose; 4 brothers, Alex, Jim, Russell and Clyde; 5 sisters, Jane McCain, Edna McCain, Myrtle Daigle, Ethel Braaten and Marie Tollefson. Earl is survived by son Alex (Maryann) McCain; 4 grandchildren, Krysa (Cori) Marann, Alecia (Nate) Finstad, Heather (Josh) Plummer and Amy (Mike) Shupe; great-grandchildren, Johnathan Finstad, Noelle Finstad, Grace Finstad, Ashley Finstad, Caleb Shupe, Hunter Shupe, Blaise Plummer, Vada Plummer and Taylor Reichert. The family wished to thank the St. Luke's Hospice Staff for the wonderful care they provided Earl. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10 AM until the 11 AM Funeral Mass on Friday, March 16, 2018 at St. Francis Xavier Church 2316 E 4th St., Superior, WI. Earl will be inurned next to his wife at Greenwood Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Superior Honor Guard. Cremation Society of Minnesota 218-624-5200
