Obituary of Darrell Duaine Martin

Darrell Duaine Martin Sr. 86, of Duluth passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, February 23, 2018. He was born May 18, 1931 in Webster City IA. to Noah and Ethel Martin. After growing up an Iowa farm boy, Darrell enlisted in the United States Air Force and not only started a career but soon met his wife of 60 years, Ingeborg, in Erding, West Germany. They would soon start a family that would grow to four children. At every duty station the family would explore all of the outdoor activities each country or region had to offer. After falling in love with the Duluth area on a previous tour of duty, Darrell decided to retire from the Air Force in 1973 from his duty station Finland AFB, in Finland MN. Darrell and Inge soon bought their first and only home in Duluth as Darrell began a second career of working in different fields of electronics repair. He finally retired as an independent contractor repairing radar installations on the fleet of Great Lakes ore boats. In retirement, Darrell continued his life-long passions of bowling, hunting, fishing, and discovered a love for the game of golf. He now had more time to visit and spoil his grandchildren and to take a six week road trip odyssey to Alaska with Inge and, their beloved dog, Patches. He continued to enjoy all that life had to offer in Duluth and will be lovingly remembered by his children and grandchildren. Darrell was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Ingeborg; his oldest sons, Mark and Terry; his brothers, Walt, Carl and John; his sisters, Maxine and Darlene. He is survived by his daughter, Karla Bennett and son, Darrell Jr. (Linda); his grandchildren, Maison, Tasha, BreeAnna, Danielle, Mariah, Rebecca and Troy; his great grandchildren, Emma, Pippa and Evelyn; sisters, Kay Cook and Mariland Kleppe. A gathering of Family and friends will be held Saturday, March 24th from 2:00-4:00 pm at Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Avenue Duluth. Should friends desire, memorials to the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers would be appreciated.
