Obituary of Marie C. Lane
Lane, Marie C. "Reesie" (née Huebl) Age 85, of Minnetonka, passed away August 30, 2018. In post war America a strong young woman in a very small town in rural Minnesota met a very worldly, handsome stranger named Tom just back from "The Big One". He had traveled the planet covering the war for the Stars and Stripes Armed Forces Newspaper; but he was 10 years her senior. What would you do? Elope. Honeymoon on the gulf coast of Biloxi, Mississippi. Drive home to Minnesota, pack up and move to New York City where her new husband began a career in advertising on Madison Avenue. It was "MadMen" without all the messy drama. Advertising brought them to Chicago where they started a family, eventually moving back to Minneapolis to raise their children closer to family and start a business in advertising and graphic design together. Reesie as business manager, Tom as creative director. Reesie's personality filled every room she entered, always engaging, joyfully opinionated and steadfast in her beliefs. In her later years, she and Tom found great joy doting on their grandchildren and wintering in Hawaii where she was known as "The Mayor" by residents of the condominiums they returned to for over 20 years. She and Tom were married 54 years until his death in 2011. Survived by sons Jon (Lisa) and Tod (Irene) as well as grandchildren Thomas and Eleanor. Private service with memorials preferred to the donor's favorite charity. Special thanks to the Staff at NC Little Hospice for their capable and compassionate care.
