Obituary of Marie Louise Ronning

Marie Louise Ronning, 58, of Duluth, passed away Wednesday March 14, 2018 after a brief battle with cancer. Marie was born on July 8, 1959 to Richard and Jean Whiteman in Hibbing, MN. She spent summers during her early years at the family cabin on Swan Lake. Marie loved horses, getting a paper route as a young teen in order to pay to attend horse camp at Ghost Canyon Dude Ranch in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and eventually owned her own horse. After her family moved to Duluth, Marie attended Duluth East High School, graduating in 1977. She worked for Zenith Management Company for more than 35 years, starting out as a housekeeper at the Edgewater Motel and eventually retiring as the revenue manager for the company. Marie was a master gardener who enjoyed spending time in her gardens and especially being with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jean; brother, Peter; sister, Lynn; and stepmother, Mavis Whiteman. Marie will be greatly missed by her daughter, Amanda Swanson of Duluth; son, Josh Ronning of Proctor; grandchildren, Alex and Emily; sisters, Sarah (Bob) Fehr, Ann (Gary) Hastings, Carol (Terry) Netzel; brothers, David (Linda) Whiteman, Frank (Julie O'Leary) Whiteman, Steve (Jacqi) Whiteman; father, Richard Whiteman; many nieces and nephews; and pets, Haley, Taz, and Lyndi. A gathering of family & friends in celebration of Marie's life will be held in her yard alongside her gardens later this summer 2018.
