Obituary of Violet Dorothy Smith

Violet Smith, 101, died Saturday September 1, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 30, 1917 in Duluth to Oscar and Linnea Hanson. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 61 years, Gerald, her brother, Elvert Hanson, sisters-in-law, Margaret Amundson and Shirley Hanson, and brother-in-law, Russell Edmunds. Violet loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and sister, Vera. Between golfing, watching baseball, and cheering on her grandchildren at sporting events, Violet enjoyed life and lived strong & determined every day. A dedicated mother and grandmother, she loved unconditionally and was an inspiration to all. Violet is survived by her three children, Linda (Rockwell) Patten, Patricia (William) Glover, Jay (Gloria) Smith, 7 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren. Visitation will be at 2:00pm prior to the 3:00pm memorial service, Monday, September 10, 2018 at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Avenue, Duluth.
