Obituary of Robert Banchy

Age 89 of Maplewood, Minnesota (formerly of Roseville Minnesota). Passed away peacefully on November 14th 2014. Survived by his wife of 62 years Nancy (Kramer) Banchy, children Kurt Banchy, Brent Banchy, Paula Banchy Madsen, and seven grandchildren. Born 07/12/1925 to John Banchy and Mary Stepita who had immigrated from Hungary and settled in Gary, Indiana. Bob graduated from Tolleston High school in Gary in 1943 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served in the Pacific theater for three years, participating in the Battle of Leyte Gulf and at one point was at sea without leave for 21 months. When the war ended he enrolled in Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Indiana where he received his bachelors degree, and later graduated from its school of law. Bob always expressed gratitude for the G.I. Bill which enabled him to obtain his education. He was called back to active duty in the Navy in 1951 during the Korean War. Upon his return he married Nancy Kramer on August 23rd 1952 and together they graduated from Valparaiso in May, 1953. They moved to the Twin Cities where they raised their family. Bob began a successful career in the Insurance casualty claims business and after retirement wintered with Nancy in Palm Harbor, Florida, developing his tennis game while waiting for the snow to melt in Roseville. There will be a gathering of friends at 11:30 AM followed by a service at noon on Saturday, December 20th at the Roseville Memorial Chapel at 2245 N. Hamline Avenue Roseville, MN 55113. Private interment at Fort Snelling Cemetery. Memorials preferred in the name of Robert Banchy to promote programming for disadvantaged youth: Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities, 690 Jackson St., St. Paul, MN 55130 or Inner City Tennis/Reed Sceatt Memorial Scholarship, 4005 Nicollet Ave S., Minneapolis, MN 55409.
