Obituary of Richard A. Hewitt

Dr. Richard A. Hewitt passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. at the Mayo Clinic Care Center in Lake City, Minnesota. He was born on March 30, 1930 in Albert Lea, Minnesota to Arthur and Hazel Hewitt. He graduated from Albert Lea High School and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After serving his country, he attended Creighton University and graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 1959. Dick married Susan Bothum on July 19, 1952 in Omaha, Nebraska. After medical school, he joined the dental practice of Dr. David Johnston and practiced dentistry in Red Wing for more than 37 years. Dick had a great sense of humor, and enjoyed fishing on the Mississippi River, Northern Minnesota and Canada. He also enjoyed hunting in his younger years, playing bridge, gardening and he especially loved to play with his children, grandchildren and great grandson and their many pets. Dick is survived by his wife Susan of 66 years, daughters Lynn, (Larry Wells), Jane, (Mike Felmlee) and son Steve (Martine). Eight grandchildren Jeremy Watson, Lauren Titze (Eric), Jeff and Charlie (Kelli) Felmlee, and Evan, Chad, Carly and Shane Hewitt. And, great grandson Emerson Titze. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, brother Don, and sisters Dorothy and Carol. A private service and burial at Fort Snelling Cemetery will be held at a later date.
