Obituary of Janice M Jensen Shannon

Janice M Jensen Shannon, 90, of Duluth, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 with her son Mike at her side in St. Luke’s Hospice after suffering from pancreatic cancer. She was born July 1, 1927 to Bert and Alice Jensen in Bemidji, MN. She was raised in Effie, MN, graduated from Bigfork High School and upon graduating attended Hursh Business College. Jan retired in 1988 after 24 years as a secretary for the Proctor School District. Jan married A. Lloyd Shannon on June 8, 1949. She was a member of Pike Lake Presbyterian Church and a former member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school and served as a trustee and member of the women’s circle. Jan resided in Midway Township until her retirement, wintering in Lake Placid, FL and Fish Lake in the summer. She enjoyed quilting, cross stitching, dominoes, family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd, granddaughter Maria, son Steven and daughter-in-law Nancy and sister Beverly Mihelich. Jan is survived by two sons, Gary (Jill) Shannon of Chaska and Michael (Liz) Shannon of Duluth; two brothers Robert (Linda) Jensen of SD, Richard (Kay) Jensen of Effie, MN., six grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Baumbach, Dr. Perelshteyn, her hospice nurse Tina and all the staff at St. Luke’s Hospital 2 West for their compassionate care of Jan. A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, March 31st 2018 at Pike Lake Presbyterian Church, 5611 Martin Rd, with a visitation starting at 10:00 followed by the service at 11:00 with a luncheon to follow.
