Obituary of Joan Rae Halstead

Joan R. Halstead, 87, of Duluth passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at the Benedictine Health Center with family by her side. Joan was born to Reidar and Fern (Wahl) Lund on July 3, 1930 in Duluth, MN, the first of two children. She attended Denfeld and later Duluth Central High School. Joan loved children and worked as an educational assistant at Northwoods Children's Home school for many years. She met Dave Halstead and they were married on August 4th, 1978. Joan loved the outdoors, especially watching the wildlife. She spent many summers at their cabin (Camp David) fishing, hiking, and canoeing. She also enjoyed traveling in their travel trailer they called "Half Pint". She was the ultimate hostess: picnics were elegant affairs, dinner parties were stylish, and the food was always excellent! She liked to play cards and board games with friends, family, and grandchildren. Joan is survived by her husband of 39 years Dave; son Dell Erickson, step-children Stephanie (Bruce) Fehringer, Tracy (Dave) Rowe, Jeff (Carol) Halstead, and Dave (Patricia) Halstead, grandchildren Nick and Nolan Erickson, ten step-grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jack Lund, and son Kenneth (Corky) Erickson. A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church (410 Arlington Ave, Duluth MN) with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation can be sent to Parks and Trails Council of MN (275 E. 4th Street, Suite 250, St. Paul, MN 55101-2626) or a charity of the donor's choice.
