Obituary of Melvin J. Niskala

Melvin J. Niskala, 77, Duluth, MN died peacefully in his home on March 29, 2018. Melvin was born on March 17, 1941 to Edith and Toivo Niskala in Toivola-Meadowlands, MN. He Married Arlene (Tina) Guitar on Dec 18, 1965, together they had two daughters, Michelle (Shelly) and Cindy. He worked at Diamond Tool and Horseshoe Company for 39 years until the company closed in 1994. He then worked for St Louis County where he retired in 2003. Melvin is survived by his daughters, Michelle Carroll of Blaine, MN; Cindy (Bryan) Moe of Barnum, MN; grandchildren, Kevin, Ryan, Kaitlyn and Kaiden; former wife Arlene Niskala of Hermantown, MN. Sisters, Eunice Bennett, Edna Henning and Eilleen Hooten. Melvin is proceeded in death by his parents, siblings Ellen, Esther, Norman, Eugene and Elmer. A special thank you to Nancy Peterson,without her the family would not have been able to follow out his wishes and keep him at home during his final days. Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. on April 5th, 2018 at the Cremation Society located at 4100 Grand Ave, Duluth MN, 55807. Visitation 1 hour prior. The family would like to invite you to a small luncheon at Bergey's Bar following the funeral located at 2232 W Superior St. Duluth, MN.
