Obituary of Phyllis Brooks

Age 90, of St Paul on April 1, 2018. She was preceded in death by her father Everett G. Brooks and mother Opal Irene (Miller) Brooks, her sisters Carolyn Bennett, and Donna McClintock. She is survived by her wife, Mary Margaret Smith, daughters Mary Yahnke, Jane (Brian Allred) Yahnke, and Robyn (Jack) Kurnat, grandsons Matt (Beth) and Mike (Beth), Great-grandchildren McKenzie, Ryan, Danny, Amelia, and Lucy and extended family and friends. Phyllis earned her B.A.in history from the College of St Francis, and her masters and doctorate in Adult Education from Northern Illinois University. She taught American History at Plainfield High School (Illinois) for 25 years. She had a keen interest in history and politics. Phyllis had a curious mind, an innate optimism and was possessed with both patience and determination. Phyllis was an avid reader, birdwatcher, photographer and traveler. She was in her element in the natural world, often opting for the road less travelled. A graveside service will be held in Plainfield, Il on April 21.
