Obituary of Richard Alvin Carlson

Richard Alvin Carlson, 85, died Jan. 1, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospice Care - Duluth. He was born in Two Harbors, Minn., on Dec. 29, 1929. Richard was an avid outdoorsman, working at Sawbill Lodge, Tofte, Minn., at the age of 14, then as a fishing guide at 17. He graduated from Clover Valley High School - Duluth in 1947. He was a licensed pilot, musician and a remarkable golfer, having won the Lester Park Men's Senior Trophy after learning the game just one year prior. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; stepbrothers Willard (Cathy) Sunde and Larry Sunde. Richard is survived by wife Vergie; brother Phillip (Diane) Carlson and stepbrother Donald Sunde; daughter Karen (Rich) Cress; sons Michael Carlson, Richard Sunde, Bruce Sunde and seven grandchildren. Special thanks to the staff at St. Luke's ICU and Hospice Care - Duluth. Richard requested no memorial service. Funeral arrangements are with the Cremation Society of Minnesota.
