Obituary of Marie Christen

Marie Christen (nee Brickweg) 92, of Melrose, Minnesota, passed away January 11, 2015. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am on January 17, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, with visitation at the church one hour before. The rosary will be prayed before Mass. Marie was born on March 31, 1922, in Melrose to parents Joseph and Elizabeth Brickweg (nee Middendorf). She was united in marriage to Harold W. Christen. They made their home in Freeport, Monticello and Fosston. After her husband retired from Land O' Lakes they made their home in Melrose. To this union five children were born-- Harry Christen (Dorothy) of Duluth, Duane Christen of Meire Grove, Mary Jane Christen of New Munich, Geraldine Wirtanen (Mark) of Cottage Grove and Betty Christen-Nothem. Marie is survived by nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, son-in-law Keith Nothem, brother Joe Brickweg and his wife, Mary, in Blaine; her sisters, Florence Schurman of Sauk Centre and Rita Loxtercamp of Meire Grove and many nieces, nephews, cousins and family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; daughter Betty Christen-Nothem, parents Joseph and Elizabeth, brothers Herman and Tom Brickweg and many relatives and friends throughout her life.
